With great museums, wonderful parks and delicious food, Madrid offers fun for all ages.
Our Madrid with kids guide has five great activities that will help you plan the best adventure that the whole family can enjoy!
El Parque del Buen Retiro is Madrid’s answer to Central Park, and this vast park is a paradise for families. There are play structures, bike trails, a large pond with paddle boats and a smaller pond with turtles! Come down on a sunny weekend, when you will often see street performances of child-centered entertainment, and when the kids get hungry you are already prepared with several cafeterias and numerous snack carts nearby! Retiro park is definitely one of our top picks of things to do in Madrid with kids.
2. National Museum of Natural Sciences
Museums are a great choice when visiting Madrid with kids. The Prado and The Reina Sofia Museums are well known as international art destinations, but for young museum-goers, the National Museum of Natural Sciences is definitely a favorite. The museum focuses on hands-on and interactive exhibits to keep young minds entertained. There is a rock garden with fossils, a giant dinosaur skeleton, and a great exhibit about Mediterranean plants and animals to learn a bit about the local environment.
4. Madrid Rio Park
Completed in 2011, this is one of Madrid’s newest treasures, which is already well loved by locals and travelers of all ages. The river walk park has green spaces complemented by high-design bridges and playgrounds where the kids will love climbing on rope and wood play equipment. You can rent bikes to experience the river walk park, or just stroll like a Madrileño! When the kids have used up all their energy, spend some time relaxing in one of the lovely cafes.
5. Take a food tour
Devour Madrid as a family! Our new Madrid For Kids Private Walking Tour gives your family a taste of Spanish food and culture. This personalized tour is adaptable based on your kids’ ages and includes tastes of delicious Spanish snacks, such as the famous jamón and delectable churros con chocolate.
