  • What to Expect on Your Tour

Join us for a mouth-watering evening of Madrid’s most delicious tapas and Spain’s incredible wines across four of the capital’s best tucked-away, family-run tapas bars! Cool draft vermouth, freshly-sliced jamón paired with sparkling cava and hot-off-the-grill tapas washed down with full-bodied reds – you’ll taste it all, learn a lot and be led by a passionate English-speaking expert wine guide on this 3-hour Madrid tapas and wine tasting tour!

The evening begins in true Madrid style – surrounded by locals in an historic, atmospheric tavern sipping vermouth and nibbling on tapas. Your guide will let you in on the secret of this local aperitif tradition and give you essential tips for doing tapas like a local. Next, you’ll be whisked off to a hidden family-run deli and tapas bar where Spain’s greatest delicacy – yes, jamón! – will be sliced before your eyes by a master carver. As the slices of acorn-fed black-hoof jamón melt on your tongue you’ll wash it back with (and learn all about) the perfect pairing – Spanish sparkling cava.

But the night is young! Next you’ll sip white and rosé wine and taste the house specialties at a gorgeous 19th century tavern run by a mother and her two sons. And finally you’ll head to another iconic tavern run by a family who makes their own wine. Over plates of sizzling prawns and juicy grilled tapas your guide will lead a fun and informative tasting of the family’s four red wines. You’ll discover Spain’s most famous grape, decode the complex system of Spanish wine labeling and learn what makes Spain (the world’s largest vineyard!) the sleeping giant of the wine world. And of course, you’ll finish up your experience with something sinfully sweet.

As with all Devour Madrid food tours, you’ll be led by one of our small team of expert, passionate English-speaking guides. And you’ll get a copy of our Devouring Madrid guide, which is packed with all our favorite places to eat and drink in the city. Plus, exclusive to this tour, you’ll also get our Madrid Wine Guide, which will ensure the great wine flows freely for the rest of your stay.

    Rave Reviews for This Tour

Great question! A Devour Madrid food tour is a fun, fascinating and (most importantly!) delicious introduction to the majestic city of Madrid. Our food tours visit some of the city’s best traditional eateries, including tapas bars, local markets, taverns and shops, and hidden gems that few even know exist! You’ll taste some of Madrid’s best local food, and gain fascinating insight into its age-old traditions. We keep our groups small and every tour is led by an English-speaking guide who knows Madrid like the back of their hand, and loves it to bits.
You’ll visit 4 traditional tapas bars, trying a delicious assortment of homemade tapas including some of Spain’s best acorn-fed Iberian ham, Madrid’s most famous garlic & chilli prawns and the city’s most incredible off-menu meatballs. The tapas will be paired with 8 different Spanish wines (across a variety of styles such as vermouth, sparkling cava, whites and reds) and you’ll learn lots of tips for enjoying wine in Spain. You’ll try at least 10 tapas, enough for a (large) dinner. All tastes are subject to change based on seasonality and our vendors’ holiday schedules, but we guarantee they’ll always be delicious! You’ll be led by a knowledgeable and fun English-speaking guide and Madrid expert. Plus, when you book you’ll receive a link to our Devouring Madrid mini-guide, packed with recommendations so you’ll eat well before and after your tour. And on tour you'll also receive our Madrid Wine Guide, which is full of tips for enjoying wine in Madrid.
The tour lasts approximately 3.5 hours (give or take 15 minutes). The tour covers approximately 1.5 kilometers (1 mile) and there is only seating at the final bar. Please note that it is traditional and authentic in Madrid tapas bars to stand and eat at the bar, and some of the taverns we visit do not have tables or seating.
Don’t worry, you won’t be part of a massive hoard following a guide with a flag or a flamenco fan! We keep our groups small and intimate, so the tour can squeeze into small, hidden places and you get personal time with your guide. The maximum number of guests on this tour is usually 10 people and we only require two guests to operate a tour.
We want as many people to be able to enjoy our tours as possible. Scroll up the page a little to see what dietary restrictions this tour is adaptable for.
Given the wine-focused nature of this tour, it's not available for guests under 18 years old.
The tour does not include transport to the meeting place, or from the ending point (ask your guide for guidance at the end of the tour if you’re not sure where you are). Also, please feel free to tip your guide if you think they did a great job! The standard gratuity in the tour industry is 10-15%.
Most importantly, your appetite! Also, keep in mind that tours take place rain or shine, so please dress appropriately and bring an umbrella if it looks like rain. Also, we recommend you wear comfortable shoes as you’ll be walking a few kilometres. Finally, while we do serve water on the tour at some stops, we recommend you bring a bottle of water.
Of course! We regularly offer private tours to families, groups of friends and corporate groups. Email us your group size, the date you'd like the tour and anything else you'd like us to keep in mind, and we'll get back to you within 24 hours.
